5 Months Old

I cannot believe Molly is already 5 months old!  I feel like I say this every month, but time flies so fast!  My cousin's first baby was born earlier this month, and seeing a newborn baby made me all teary eyed.  You really don't realize how fast they grow.  One moment she's a tiny, sleepy, newborn and then the next she is a goofy, wiggly, 5 month old.

I have one very strong girl on my hands.  This entire month she has been willing herself to crawl.  It started with pulling her knees up and scooting forward without purpose for where she's going.  Then she started to  bring herself up all the way onto her hands and her toes.  Then she would attempt to bring her knee up sending her nose into the floor.  Then she started to roll and scoot with the intention of moving from point A to point B.   And just today I saw her pull her knee up without falling over.  She is getting so much closer everyday.  Isn't just amazing that babies know exactly what they need to do without even being taught?

She is also a very strong willed little girl.  She knows what she wants.  If she is on her tummy and doesn't want to be, she will let you know.  If you are trying to make her sleep and she doesn't want to, she will let you know.  If she's not getting enough attention and she wants it, she will let you know.  If she has been in her car seat long enough, she will let you know.  With that being said, I must say that she is not a super demanding baby.  She just knows what she wants and knows what she likes and tries to let you know in the only way that she can right now.

More than anything she is a happy baby who has the sweetest smile I have ever laid my eyes on.  Her whole face just lights up!  She absolutely loves to talk and she sure has a lot to say!  She discovers new sounds she can makes and it makes her so excited.  When she gets excited you can feel and see it through her whole body.

She is also incredibly social.  She loves people!  If there are people around she would much rather not eat all day and get all of her calories at night.  If there are too many distractions we have to go into a quiet room to nurse.  It is actually kind of nice because it forces us to have some really nice quiet time together.  But as soon as she is done eating...it's time to play!  She is finally starting to talk to other people.  For a while, she would just stare at new people but now she is more than excited to tell them all that she has to say!  She also tries to refuse to sleep if there is a party going on....sometimes it works.  She just wants to be in the middle of it all!

She is still wearing almost all of her 0-3 size clothes, with the exception of sleepers, but she is starting to wear 3-6 sizes even though most are still a bit big.  She doesn't go to the doctor this month, but I am guessing she is around 12 lbs.  Last month, her doctor did say that I could start her on solids.  I was super excited and bought her some rice cereal immediately.  We assembled her highchair, put on a bib, and gave it a shot.  She was more than willing to try it and opened her mouth up like a little birdie, but she kept pushing it out of her mouth, which told me that she still had the thrusting reflex and her little digestive system was still too immature to handle anything besides Mommy's milk.  So we put solids on hold for a while.  I think we will give it another shot soon because this baby grabs everything that I try to eat or drink!

But now for the best part of the blog...pictures!!  I am so happy that I took that photography class!  I immediately was able to get out of the automatic mode rut and switch over into manual mode.  I also noticed an immediate and drastic difference in the quality of my photos when I did.  So very worth the time and money to learn.  I know I still have a lot of learning and practice to do....but I am happy with where I am at the moment.

Those eyes!
